Out of the Blue
Much to the horror of my family, I started to collect discarded masks whenever we left the safe space of our home during lockdown. They have become part of our landscape and still are, a constant reminder of our surreal existence. I wanted to record these disposable objects that drop lightly to the ground and then slowly disappear out of sight. When will they no longer be the norm? The chemical process of the cyanotype creates a blue that is not found in nature, each one is as individual as the found masks. Recording part of this experience is important, remembering our feelings of being isolated and hidden not only at home but behind these pieces of fabric. Loosing that connection with one another, but also
remembering how they kept us safe.
This is an on going project.
